UCF Libraries Role

The UCF Libraries’ role in the Information Fluency initiative:

(see the Information Literacy & Outreach Department's presentation from the 2007 ACRL Conference for more information)

  • The new UCF Libraries Information Literacy and Outreach Dept is working in close collaboration with Course Development to develop Information Literacy Modules with a tentative timeline to roll out Summer 2008.
  • Librarians are supporting four pilot projects that are integrating Information Fluency into their curricula.
    The four pilot projects are:
    • Honors College
    • Philosophy program
    • Strategies for Success (SLS 1501) course
    • Nursing program
Two more pilots will be added in each of the next 3 years that we will also support.
  • UCF Librarians submitted a white paper on the topic of Information Fluency which was adopted as a five year Campus-wide UCF Quality Enhancement Plan (2006-2011).
  • $1000 grants have been awarded to 26 applicants in 2006 who developed plans to enhance students’ information fluency skills in some way. The Information Literacy and Outreach Department works to support the needs of the awardees. Additional grants will be awarded in each of the next 3 years. For more information about Information Fluency Enhancement Grants, go to http://if.ucf.edu/faculty/enhancement_grants.php.
  • A new Information Literacy Librarian has been hired to work closely with new Instructional Design Specialist on Information Literacy Modules.
  • An Information Literacy Faculty Fellow currently works part time in the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) to promote information literacy to the faculty
