Collection Development

The collection at the Universal Orlando Foundation Library will come to be recognized as one of the world's best for the study of hospitality management. Building a library collection, however, takes time and care. We are constantly hunting down rare or out-of-print materials, processing recent donations, and, of course, purchasing new materials and monitoring recent publications.

Suggestions

Please consider taking some time to survey the materials we own in your area of specialization. Then let us know of any specific titles you would suggest for purchase or any specific areas that need further development. We are, of course, limited by the availability of funds; however, most reasonable faculty book requests can be filled.

Donations

In addition, please consider donating any unwanted hospitality- or business-related materials to the Library. (Donations for any field of study can be accepted at the Universal Orlando Foundation Library; however, items not related to hospitality management may be considered for inclusion in the main UCF Library's collections.)

Your gift will be acknowledged with a letter from the UCF Libraries administration and with our sincere thanks.

Vertical Files

Not all materials, of course, are suitable for adding to the Library's permanent collections. Industry-specific brochures, pamphlets, clippings, and other small items are, however, sometimes important sources of information for hospitality students and faculty alike. Accordingly, we have created Vertical Files to collect and maintain this type of information. Vertical File materials may be used in the library or checked out for short periods of time.

Currently, three types of materials are maintained in our Vertical Files:

• Travel brochures and maps from around the world
• Industry-specific vendor catalogs and brochures
• Literature from hospitality and tourism associations

Faculty members are encouraged to suggest other areas for development or to donate additional industry-related materials for inclusion in the Vertical Files.
