Course Related Instruction

Part of the mission of Special Collections is to serve as an instructional resource for University Faculty. Special Collections staff are happy to work with instructors to integrate Special Collections material into their curricula and encourages class visits. Instructional sessions can be tailored to both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Classes that have used Special Collections include: History & Historians, Marxist Political Theory, Methods of Bibliography and Research, Linguistics and Literature, Oral History, Modern Art of Mexico, Creole Identity, Caribbean Cultures, Product Development in Theme Parks & Attractions, Type & Design and Artist Book. Instructional sessions can focus on a specific collection or topic, or cover broad research methodology such as primary source and archives research.

How to Schedule a Visit

The Special Collections Reading Room can accommodate up to 50 students lecture style seating and 20-25 students round table seating. Arrangements can be made for other class sizes. We ask that all class visits be scheduled at least two weeks in advance, a month is preferred.

For Students

To assist students with class projects and specialized research, we are happy to hold individual research consultations with both undergraduate and graduate students. To schedule an Individual Research Consultation, please use our Online Individual Research Consultation Form.

For classes using Special Collections for research projects throughout the semester, we have setup individual web pages where you can find resources specifically for your class. Please click on the link below for your class. You may be prompted for a username and password to access certain resources; these will be given to you by your instructor.
